Common issues

shield"Just Talk can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"

macOS Gatekeeper blocks first launch because we're not yet through Apple's notarization (coming soon). Workaround:

  1. In Finder, right-click Just Talk.app in your Applications folder
  2. Choose Open from the context menu
  3. In the dialog, click Open again
  4. From now on, double-clicking works normally

mic_offHotkey beeps but no overlay or text appears

The mic permission was reset (this happens after most app updates). Fix:

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
  2. Enable Just Talk
  3. Quit Just Talk (menubar icon → Quit) and relaunch
  4. Press your hotkey again — you should see the recording overlay

accessibilityRecording works but text doesn't paste

Accessibility permission needed for the global hotkey + paste. Fix:

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
  2. If Just Talk is listed, toggle it off then on; if not, click + and add it
  3. Quit and relaunch the app

credit_cardPayment succeeded but the app says "no API key"

The post-checkout flow needs you to enter your email in the app's setup wizard (the same email you used at Stripe). Fix:

  1. Open Just Talk → menubar → Settings → Account
  2. If you see a "Connect" button, enter the email used at checkout
  3. Your trial / paid key activates immediately — no separate copy/paste needed

Still stuck? Email us with your checkout email and we'll resync manually.

refresh"Update to v…" button does nothing

Your Mac's Keychain doesn't have the API key the update server needs for download auth. As of v1.0.4, clicking the button routes you to Settings → Account automatically. On older versions:

  1. Open Settings → Account in the app
  2. Sign in with your email (or paste your gio_live_… key directly)
  3. Try the Update button again

link_offDownload link expired or 404

Direct download URLs are version-stamped — old links break when we ship a new version.

  1. Visit justtalk.enfo.ca and click Download Just Talk
  2. Or hit /api/just-talk/download/latest.zip for the most recent ZIP

Frequently asked

Can I use Just Talk on more than one Mac?
Yes — install on as many Macs as you personally use. One subscription = one user, but that user can dictate from any of their machines. We don't enforce a hard device cap.
Are updates included?
Yes. While your subscription is active, every update is included automatically — both feature releases and bug fixes. Updates ship via the in-app Update button.
What happens to my voice data?
Audio is sent to Groq for transcription, transcribed, and discarded. Neither we nor Groq retains the recording. Transcripts live locally on your Mac in a SQLite database — we never see them. Full details on the Privacy page.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — within 14 days for technical defects. The 7-day free trial is meant to give you a no-risk evaluation period; for change-of-mind cases, just don't subscribe after the trial. Full policy on the Refunds page.
What payment methods do you accept?
Stripe handles checkout, so anything Stripe supports in your country: credit / debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and select local methods. We never see card numbers.
How do I cancel my subscription?
In the app: Settings → Account → Cancel subscription. Or email hola@enfo.ca. You keep access through the end of the paid period; no further charges.
Does Just Talk work offline?
No — transcription requires sending audio to our cloud service for speech-to-text and AI editing. The hotkey monitor and overlay run locally, but the actual transcription needs an internet connection.
Which languages are supported?
30+ languages via Whisper, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanglish (mixed Spanish-English). Auto-detection works in most cases; you can set a default language hint in Settings → Voice.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later, a built-in or external microphone, an internet connection, and one-time Accessibility + Microphone permissions. Apple Silicon and Intel Macs both supported.
